In Progress

Anxiety, 2016, In Progress Shots

I’ve been really into coming up with highly detailed drawings lately, as you can see with works like “Decomposition” (2015), and “Neverending (This Isn’t Over)” (2015). For some reason, despite the fact that I can get fidgety working on these, I like putting in the effort and pushing myself to slow down. I also have been doing a lot of traditional ink work and going back to my comic book roots in doing so.

I noticed I don’t very often draw one of my repetitious characters Azra as much besides a strong, stationary character, when he is often anything but. Azra suffers from invisible mental illness – post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which manifests with depression, anxiety, and various other symptoms. As many people incorrectly believe, Azra thinks showing even the slightest hint that he has any of this makes him weak, so he is good at hiding it and pushes people away from finding out about it. When experiencing a panic attack, he often describes it as “hands, ripping and grabbing at his flesh”. Thus, I decided to give a visual depiction of this.

I also seem to be one of the only artists in the world who likes drawing hands. So I might as well go all out with it!
