Azra, 2016, Process Gif

While I was working on getting some sketches down for a new digital series, I decided I wanted to make sure I had something nice and new for 2016. I decided to draw a picture of my character Azra, similarly to the way I drew him in January of 2015.

I started with a colored pencil sketch in my recycled sketchbook and liked the gestural aspect of the sketch, so I decided to use it instead of thumbnailing in digital and using that. I drew over the sketch digitally and started working in details and textures. I liked the way the fibers of the paper looked, so I incorporated them into the texture of his hoodie. You can see some of my steps in the process gif below:
