[NSFW] Reunion, 2018, Timelapse Video

September 26, 2018
An illustration of a nude man holding a large sword (a "zweihander") in his hands. The sword is mostly wrapped with cloth except for a small section near the hilt that is glowing blue. The man's eyes, which are partially open, are also glowing blue. There is a golden sunset or sunrise filtering through the trunks of leaf-less trees in the background.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a timelapse video!

My latest work, Reunion, is based on a call-back to one of my older works, Dolf, completed in 2017. I actually very much liked that image and it ended up being one of my favorites from 2017, so why not revisit my own work in a way? “Reunion” wasn’t supposed to be so similar, and in fact ended up more similar than I would have liked. The original sketch had my character Azra clothed, for example, wearing leather gloves, a jacket, and pants… It was a less vague way of indicating the passage of time and showing that Dolf and Reunion occur many years apart — whereas Reunion is taking place during a more civilized timeframe. But… After sketching it out I couldn’t decide on clothing I liked or on clothing that looked like it fit in the environment I was envisioning, so I ended up going buff. Again.

My vague indicators for the passage of time become more vague!

Reunion, 2018

Grey hairs, for one, hard to make out in the darkness, hardly much of anything to indicate “aging” for a seemingly ageless vampire. His stance is more purposeful, not worried and saddened like in Dolf. He’s returning this thing that holds great power to him — maybe even the same power inside of him.

I also, as usual, got stuck deciding colors and came up with a rather interesting looking variant too. Not bad!

Anyway, less tearing down of my own illustration, more timelapse action! I filmed myself drawing out the background and then sped it up. Enjoy! πŸ˜€
